Where are surgical procedures performed?

Dr. Pruitt performs surgery at several nationally accredited facilities including the large hospital across the street from his offices — Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas — where he served as the Chairman of the Plastic Surgery Department for many years. For the last 10 years, most of his surgical procedures have been performed in an accredited surgical suite in the same building, utilizing state-of-the-art moderate IV sedation under the supervision of an expert MD Anesthesiologist. The costs of surgical procedures can vary depending on the specific treatment being requested. After your initial consultation with Dr. Pruitt, his nurse, Carolyn, will provide you with a comprehensive breakdown of the expected expenses related to your personalized treatment plan and answer any questions about costs.

Does the clinic offer financing or payment plans?

At Dr. Pruitt’s practice, we understand that the financial investment made for surgery can be a significant consideration for some patients. When you decide to have elective plastic surgery, there is a deposit or scheduling fee to schedule and hold a surgical date. The remaining balance is due three weeks prior to surgery. Patients can choose to settle their account with cash, check, cashier’s check, or credit card, or explore independent medical financing options. Additionally, you may wish to talk with the scheduling coordinator to select a convenient date for your surgery and then make periodic payments leading up to your procedure.

Are follow-up visits included in the cost of surgery with Dr. Pruitt?

Yes, all follow-up visits are included in Dr. Pruitt’s professional fees for the first year after surgery. He believes that these are an integral part of the recovery process whether in person, or virtually for his out of state patients. Dr. Pruitt's team will typically schedule appointments to see you in his office the first few days after surgery and then at regular intervals – or any time you have a question about your progress. Longer term follow-up appointments at 6 weeks, 3 months, and up to 1 year post procedure can be in person or by video conference for those who live in other states or countries and have traveled to Dallas for Dr. Pruitt to perform their surgery. Again, ALL of your follow up clinic visits are included in the professional fee for the first year.

The choice of anesthesia for your procedure is an important aspect of your overall surgical experience. Dr. Pruitt will discuss the most suitable options for your comfort and safety.

Instead of deep general anesthesia with intubation—which involves inserting a tube down the trachea—most of Dr. Pruitt’s patients choose to undergo procedures with a specific protocol involving a less invasive method called moderate IV sedation with local anesthesia.

Benefits of moderate IV sedation with local anesthesia include:

  • Less invasive than general anesthesia with intubation
  • Reduced risk of anesthesia-related complications
  • Faster recovery and return to normal activities
  • Enhanced comfort during and after surgery

Dr. Pruitt is dedicated to ensuring that you have a pleasant surgical experience, and discussing these options will help you make an informed decision about your care.

Understanding your anesthesia options is crucial for a successful surgical experience. Dr. Pruitt is always committed to ensuring your comfort and safety by selecting the best anesthesia method tailored to your procedure and individual needs. If you have any questions or concerns about anesthesia, feel free to discuss them with our team during your consultation. We’re here to support you every step of the way.

What are the benefits of IV sedation with local anesthesia?

IV sedation with local anesthetic reduces some of the risks of general anesthesia complications, often resulting in a smoother recovery. Faster Recovery Time: Many patients find that they recover more quickly from moderate sedation, allowing them to resume their normal activities sooner.

Can I combine multiple procedures in one surgery?

Yes, in many situations, multiple procedures may be combined to reduce recovery time and overall costs. This decision will be based on your health status, the complexity of the surgical procedures, and Dr. Pruitt's recommendations following a thorough, individualized assessment.

Is plastic surgery suitable for everyone?

Plastic surgery is most appropriate for individuals who are in good health, possess realistic expectations, and seek enhancement rather than perfection. During your consultation, Dr. Pruitt will determine if you are a good candidate for the desired procedures based on your anatomy, your health, and your desired outcomes.

Can I drive myself home after surgery?

No, after undergoing surgery—whether with IV sedation or general anesthesia—you will need a responsible adult to drive you home and remain with you for at least 24 hours.

What is the recovery time after surgery?

Recovery times will vary depending on the procedure performed. Most patients can return to light activities within a few days to a week and are typically able to begin full activity and aerobic exercise around three weeks post-surgery when cleared by Dr. Pruitt and his staff. Dr. Pruitt’s staff will provide detailed instructions tailored to your specific procedure and recovery process.

Will I need to wear a surgical garment?

Depending on the type of surgery and other factors, you may be placed in a compression garment to support your tissues during your recovery. Dr. Pruitt’s clinic staff will provide you with the specific garment and all necessary details regarding his instructions.

When can I return to work?

Patients who are able to work virtually from home, or from a hotel, often resume their work within a few days. In-person return to work recommendations will vary depending on the nature of their job and the complexity of the surgery performed.

Will I have visible incision lines or scars after surgery?

All surgical procedures that involve incisions will result in some lines or scarring. Dr. Pruitt’s eye for aesthetics allows him to hide these incision lines or place them in the most favorable location. This, combined with his meticulous plastic surgical suturing techniques, helps to make most incision lines improve with time to a point where many are mostly unnoticeable long term. Almost all incision lines fade over time and you may receive recommendations for non-invasive treatments to further improve their appearance.

How can I reduce swelling after surgery?

Post-operative swelling or edema occurs following virtually all surgical procedures. This will generally peak by the second or third day post-operatively and then diminish rapidly. You will want to follow Dr. Pruitt’s post-operative instructions, including lower salt or sodium intake, elevation if appropriate, and avoidance of any strenuous activities.

Can I suntan after surgery?

It is recommended to avoid direct sun exposure for several weeks following your surgery. Sun exposure can lead to hyperpigmentation and may negatively impact the appearance of your incisions. When spending time outdoors, wear a hat and apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect your healing skin.

How long do I need to wait before traveling after surgery?

Every year, a large number of patients travel from around the U.S. and internationally for Dr. Pruitt to perform their surgeries. For most of our out-of-town patients, Dr. Pruitt recommends staying in town for at least one week following your surgery. This allows for close monitoring during the initial recovery phase. After that week, depending on your specific procedure, you may return home, but may want to come back for a follow-up appointment in 10 to 14 days. Virtual follow-up visits can be arranged for those who are traveling long distances from out of state or internationally.

When can I fly after having surgery?

Depending upon the procedure, for short domestic flights, it is generally safe to travel within a few days post-surgery. However, for international travel, it is usually advisable to wait at least 2 weeks. Always discuss your travel plans with Dr. Pruitt and his team to ensure they align with your recovery timeline and to maintain your safety.

What should I do if I experience concerns after surgery?

Fortunately, complications are rare, but if you notice any unusual symptoms such as excessive swelling, discomfort, or any sign of possible infection, please contact our office immediately. Dr. Pruitt and his experienced team are available to assist you and address any concerns that may arise during your recovery period.

How can I prepare my home for recovery after surgery?

Creating a comfortable and relaxing environment for your recovery is crucial. Make sure you have easy access to essential items and avoid any strenuous activities. It's a good idea to arrange support from a family member or friend and have your medications readily available. Setting up a designated rest area with pillows, good lighting, and appropriate technology can also help you stay comfortable during your recovery.

How soon after surgery can I shower?

Patients are typically able to shower 48 hours after surgery. Dr. Pruitt will provide specific instructions tailored to your procedure. Please refrain, however, from submerging in water, swimming, or taking a bath until cleared by Dr. Pruitt.

What should I eat during my recovery?

Dr. Pruitt believes that a well-balanced diet that includes plenty of proteins, multivitamins, and minerals is vital for optimal healing. Avoiding salt or sodium will help to decrease the swelling or puffiness you may experience after surgery. After facial surgery, it is not advisable to eat food that requires opening the mouth widely or excessive chewing.

Start your journey to a
younger appearing, more confident self.
